This summer we had the chance to see ECHO, the Cirque's 20th big top production, presented on the quai Jacques-Cartier in the picturesque Old Port. The Cirque's return to Montreal always has something special about it: it's here, in the company's home city, that the magic takes on its full scale. The story of ECHO is as poetic as it is deep. Cirque du Soleil presents ECHO, a modern odyssey about the bonds between humans and animals. When FUTURE and her dog, Ewai, discover a mysterious CUBE, they set off on an adventure full of discovery, hope and empathy, in the course of which they realize that their actions have the power to transform the world. A stirring message about our relationship with nature, carried by an endearing heroine and her lovable four-legged companion. Visually, it's a marvel from one moment to the next. With projections lighting up the seven-metre-high CUBE, incredible costumes whose animal heads call papier mâché to mind, and breathtaking acrobatics, ECHO carries the audience not only into the future but into a world marked by wonder and hope. The famous giant CUBE, a full-fledged character in the show, transforms with the projections into ever more stunning tableaux. A real gem of stage innovation! A few practical notes: the performance runs 125 minutes and includes a 25-minute intermission. The show suits the whole family, though some passages may be intense for the very young.
