La Revanche
For a moment that is convivial, tasty and playful all at once, we fell for La Revanche, the very first board-game resto-pub in the Capitale-Nationale. Founded in 2013 by three game enthusiasts, La Revanche is a business specializing in the modern board game: as a product, as an activity, as a tool. The concept is as simple as it is brilliant: play, drink, eat, in a warm and relaxed setting. On site, it is a veritable treasure cave for game lovers! The faithful hosts and keepers of the establishment's 1,200 games know their tricks at their fingertips, and stand ready to enlist newcomers, game piece in one hand and, sometimes, a pint of blonde or red ale in the other, guiding them in their choice and initiating them into the rules of the player's trade. You do not need to be a board-game pro: specialized, experienced hosts greet guests and guide them in choosing games, going so far as to help them get started by giving complete, detailed explanations of the rules. On the food side, coffee, beer, meals, desserts and snacks round out the gaming experience — which makes it a full outing. Whether you are a fan of strategy games, cooperative games, party games or classics, you are bound to find what you are after among the establishment's impressive collection. Apikol
In the heart of the vibrant Saint-Roch district, on boulevard Charest Est, hides a genuine little jewel: the Apikol distillery. Run by passionate beekeepers and distillers, Apikol is located in Saint-Roch, the cradle of distilling in Canada. A fine nod to history, since Canada's first rum distillery was built there in 1769, and more than 250 years later, Fréderic Dutil and Nadine Pelletier created Apikol on the same ground. What makes the place absolutely unique is its all-in-one concept. Apikol is Quebec City's first distillery born out of urban agriculture, bringing together under one roof a honey house, a meadery, a distillery and a tasting area. From honey to bottle, everything is made on site by passionate urban beekeepers — a genuine feat right downtown! The guided "from bee to bottle" tour is a must: you begin by watching the bees at work in the observation hive, then carry on into the distillery, and finish with a tasting. An experience at once educational, immersive and delicious, lasting about an hour. As for products, mead, gin, vodka and eau-de-vie are available for tasting and for sale on site. The big star? The caramelized honey eau-de-vie — which recalls the taste of rum — scented with Quebec sweet clover blossom and aged in oak barrels. A singular product, deeply Québécois.
Exode Aventures
Looking for an original activity off the beaten track? Exode Aventures, in the Lebourgneuf district of Quebec City, gave us an experience as lively as it was fun! It is the first challenge-room centre in Quebec, a concept that is all the rage around the world, offering up to 30 varied challenge rooms combining escape games and arcade games. Covering 15,000 square feet, this new entertainment centre enjoys a prime location in the Lebourgneuf area. The concept is brilliant: in a team of 2 to 6 players, you have 90 minutes to take on as many challenges as possible across more than 15 themed rooms. Between agility games, giant puzzles, memory challenges, interactive targets and tests of skill, each room offers quick 3-to-5-minute challenges with up to 100 possible variants. The big plus? You freely choose which rooms to take on according to your mood, in whatever order you like. A favourite room? Do it again! Feel like trying another challenge? Move on to the next one! The experience is open to ages 6 and up, and it is the ideal activity with family, with friends or for an original team-building outing.
